The 6th Turkish Medical World Council took place in Istanbul on 29-31 October 2019 in collaboration of Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Health and TÜSEB, concurrently with HIMSS’19 Eurasia Organization.
With the main theme of “Biotechnology in Health”, the Council brought together many accomplished researchers from Turkey and abroad as well as scientists, health ministers, academicians and health sector stakeholders.
In his inaugural speech, Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca thanked to all participants for their support in this organization, which aimed to create a platform for exchange of knowledge and experience.
“Turkey has been going through a health transformation process for the last 16 years as a result of which we have increased the universal health coverage to a great extent. We have improved the health infrastructure to unprecedented levels with the construction of city hospitals. We have removed obstacles before access to the medicines.
Above all, we have big targets to offer high quality services for our citizens and become a global brand in health. I think Turkey has now all to be the most preferred country of the world in terms of health tourism. The International Health Services Inc. (USHAŞ) will accelerate the activities in this direction, and made great achievements for localization of medicines, vaccines and medical equipment.
TÜSEB is making great progress in R&D projects and we have great expectations from this institutions in the fields of metabolic diseases, individualized medicine, medicine and vaccine development” said Dr. Koca in his speech.
On 30 October 2019, on the margin of the Council, Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca met with Health Minister of Kazakhstan Yelzhan Birtanov, Health Minister of South Africa Dr. Zwelini Mkhize, Health Minister of Djibouti Mohamed Warsama Dirieh, Health Minister of Namibia Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, Health Minister of TRNC Ali Pilli, Health Minister of Mauritania Dr. Mohamed Nedhirou Hamed, and Health Minister of Kyrgyz Republic Dr. Kosmosbek Cholponbaev. In addition, Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Emine Alp Meşe met with Deputy Minister of Health of Croatia Tomislav Dubuliç.
Following the bilateral meetings with Health Ministers of Kazakhstan and Djibouti, the two Ministers signed Cooperation Agreement with USHAŞ, and Health Ministers of Turkey and Namibia signed an Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Health.
