Kilis State Hospital Construction Protocol was signed between the Ministry of Health and Council of Europe Development Bank.
Undersecretary Prof. Dr. Eyüp Gümüş, and representatives from the Council of Europe Development Bank and Ministry of Health attended the signing ceremony that took place in Bilkent Campus of the Ministry of Health.
In his speech, the Undersecretary said that Turkey hosts around 4 million Syrians and 200 thousands Iraqi refugees, and Turkey offers any kind of services for the refugees, mainly health, accommodation and training and added that “Our Syrian and Iraqi guests benefit from the same health services as the Turkish citizens.”
Reminding that Turkey spent € 31 billion for the needs of the Syrian refugees, the Undersecretary stated that “The Turkish Ministry of Health is not restricted to its geography and undertakes health cooperation activities with such friendly countries as Somalia, Djibouti and Bangladesh. As a reflection of such services, today we will sign the protocol for a 327-bed hospital in Kilis with the European Union. Furthermore, there will be 40-unit oral and dental health centers in the same campus.”
Prof. Dr. Gümüş stated that the investment of Kilis State Hospital will be completed by June 2020 and added that “This hospital and the oral and dental health clinic will be equipped with modern devices and provide services for both the Turkish citizens and Syrians refugees as well as the residents of the neighbor countries.”
Ms. Rosa Maria Sanchez-Yebra Alonso, Deputy Head of Social Development Strategy at the Council of Europe Development Bank said that Kilis faces challenges due to mass migration and the migration causes pressure on the health system. As the Council of Europe Development Bank, they are proud to have a part in this project and they are aware of the importance of the hospital to be built in Kilis.
Following the speeches, Dr. Şuayip Birinci, Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, and Ms. Rosa Maria Sanchez-Yebra Alonso, Deputy Head of Social Development Strategy at the Council of Europe Development Bank signed the cooperation protocol.
