Born in Trabzon in 1966, Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu is from Rize. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1990, and completed
his specialization training in General Surgery in 1995 at Istanbul Okmeydanı Training Hospital.
Between 1996-1998, he worked as a general surgeon at SSK Konya Ereğli Hospital, PTT Hospital and Bursa Military Hospital. He worked at Miami University Liver and Gastrointestinal Transplantation Unit in 1999 and 2000. Thereafter, he served as Chief Assistant at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery for two years.
He was appointed as Chief Physician at PTT Hospital at the end of 2002, and became Associate Professor of General Surgery in 2008. He completed his Master's degree in Health Management at Beykent University, which he started in 2007, in 2009. He worked as Chief Physician at Istanbul Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital for 10 years.
In November 2012, he was appointed as the Head of Medical Services to the General Secretariat of the Istanbul Anatolian Northern Public Hospitals Association and became the General Secretary of the Union in May 2014. In 2016, he was appointed to the position of Professor at the University of Health Sciences Fatih Sultan Mehmet Health Application and Research Center (SUAM) as a General Surgery Faculty Member. He had served as Istanbul Provincial Health Director since October 2016 until he was appointed as the Minister of Health on July 2, 2024.
Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu is married and the father of three children.
