Minister of Health Akdağ's assessment of 2016

UPDATED : 16/03/2017

Minister of Health Recep Akdağ held a press conference in Ankara to assess 2016. Akdağ gave information about expectations and targets in 2016.
During the Q&A part, one of the reporters asked: "Volume guarantee was foreseen for the outsourced medical equipment and devices at the hospitals. Currently, to what extent are hospitals equipped? You had mentioned about local drug and vaccine production in Turkey against volume guarantee. Any progress there?" In his reply, Akdağ said: "Our current priorities include producing plasma from our own sources, certain blood products and blood drugs. The Social Security Institution will derive products from the plasma out of the blood collected by the Red Crescent. Our tender preparations are approaching the final phase. We expect to take care of the plasma business in the first half of 2017. At present, the cost of importing these products is nearly 1.5 billion TL. We will soon produce these in Turkey. In time, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will start exporting the plasma we produce. The Ministry of Health will provide technical assistance to the tenders. We also hope to make progress regarding CT, MRI, ultrasound and digital measures."
